Buying a Used Citroën ë-C3 (2024 on): Plus or Max, Recalls, Range & What to Check

By Elace Grace··7 min read

Citroën’s ë-C3 is a small electric hatchback, introduced in the UK in 2024 at prices from £21,990, making it one of the least expensive new electric cars available then. Comfort and simplicity take priority over speed or range. Used examples are still young and inexpensive, mostly advertised around £15,000–£17,500. Here we explain the versions, recalls, warranty, realistic range and prices to expect. You’ll find a print-out checklist at the end.

The short version
  • Best value: a 2024 Max at around £15,250, or a 2025 Plus at around £15,000, both with low mileage.
  • Range: officially 199 miles; allow around 160 in mild conditions and closer to 120 in winter.
  • Best for: urban driving and short commutes with home charging; long motorway journeys require frequent rapid-charging stops.
  • Check before you buy: the recalls are done, and which charger the car has.

Which version of the ë-C3 is it?

Every used ë-C3 so far has the 44 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, paired with an 83 kW (113 hp) motor. Acceleration from 0–62 mph takes about 11 seconds, with an 84 mph maximum speed. Adverts list two trims, PLUS and MAX; Max brings extra equipment, including a rear camera. Standard home charging is 7.4 kW, or 11 kW with the optional charger. Rapid charging reaches up to 100 kW, taking about 26 minutes from 20 to 80%. Full specifications appear on the Citroën ë-C3 page.

Warranty

Citroën covers the battery for 8 years or 100,000 miles from initial registration, giving a 2024 example battery cover until 2032. The car’s own warranty is shorter: check its remaining cover and anything extra provided by an approved-used warranty.

Recalls

Listed under the C3, these recalls may include petrol and hybrid models too. Check whether the particular car is affected:

  • Seat belt pretensioner (2025): 531 cars built November 2024 to February 2025 could have crossed wires at the airbag control unit connector, preventing a front pretensioner from operating during a crash.
  • Brake pedal (2025): 962 cars built May to November 2025 may have a missing or incorrectly installed pin, allowing the brake pedal to work loose.
  • Power steering wiring (2026): 676 cars built February to May 2025 could lose steering assistance because of a chafed wiring harness.
  • Alarm and camera software (2025–2026): updates address an alarm that could activate by itself, plus faults with the speed-limit display.

Check on GOV.UK’s recall checker and ask a Citroën dealer to print the car’s recall and update history.

Safety

We found no Euro NCAP rating for the current ë-C3 during our October 2026 check. The stars you may see quoted belong to the older C3 instead.

Realistic range

These figures estimate a typical car’s range, using the same battery-ageing model used elsewhere on EVcarsguide:

CarSummerYear-roundWinter
2024 ë-C3162 miles143 miles120 miles
2025 ë-C3165 miles145 miles122 miles

The estimates put mild-weather range at about 85% of the official figure with a healthy battery. Owners contemplating regular winter motorway journeys worry about the small battery’s limited margin, so compare your longest routine journey with the winter figure.

What owners report

Owner discussion of the ë-C3 remains limited. Read the following as individual reports from some owners:

  • Timed charging. Coordinating scheduled home charging with a smart tariff and charger can require some time to set up. Owners also describe the MyCitroën app as unreliable.
  • Comfort. Owners appreciate the soft ride and comfortable, easy-entry seats.

What to pay

Brand-new or delivery-mileage cars account for over a third of ë-C3 adverts. Used examples all share the 44 kWh battery, with the table grouping them by trim and registration year.

These are asking prices rather than valuations. The ë-C3 qualifies for the Electric Car Grant when new, making a new-car comparison worthwhile before choosing a nearly new example:

Questions to ask the seller

  1. Is it a Plus or Max, and is the optional 11 kW charger fitted?
  2. Have all the recalls and software updates been done?
  3. Was this car previously a demonstrator or hire vehicle, and can the seller provide its Citroen service history?
  4. Which charging cables are included, and can the seller show that they are in working condition?

The print-out checklist

Bring this along. It covers checks specific to the ë-C3; our general used EV buyer’s guide covers the checks that apply to any used electric car.
