Privacy & Cookie Policy

Last updated: September 2026

Who we are

EVcarsguide is a UK electric vehicle comparison website. This policy explains how we collect and use data when you visit our site.

What data we collect

We do not collect any personal information such as your name, email address, or payment details through general site usage. We do not require you to create an account.

If you consent to analytics, Google Analytics collects anonymised usage data including pages visited, time on site, approximate location (country/city level), device type, and browser. This data is aggregated and cannot be used to identify you personally.

We show display advertising through Journey by Mediavine. Mediavine and its advertising partners may use cookies and similar technologies to show and measure ads, and, if you consent, to personalise them. The partners and the purposes they use data for are listed in the consent dialog.

Cookies we use

We use the following types of cookies:

Consent dialogEssentialStores the consent choices you make in the consent dialogPersistent
_gaAnalyticsGoogle Analytics - distinguishes unique visitors2 years
_ga_*AnalyticsGoogle Analytics - maintains session state2 years

In the UK and EU, a consent dialog (provided by Mediavine) asks for your choices on your first visit. Google Analytics cookies are only set if you consent to storing information on your device and to measurement of content performance. If you reject, or do not interact with the dialog, no analytics cookies are placed on your device. Outside the UK and EU, where consent is not required, analytics and advertising cookies are set by default.

We use Google Consent Mode v2, which means Google Analytics loads in a privacy-safe mode by default. Before you accept cookies, GA4 sends anonymous, cookieless pings that contain no personal data and do not store anything on your device. These pings help Google model aggregate traffic patterns without identifying individual visitors. Full cookie-based tracking only activates if you explicitly accept.

Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID: G-3W3VMRTV0Y) to understand how visitors use our site, which helps us improve content and user experience. Google Analytics processes data on Google's servers. We have configured Google Analytics with the following privacy settings:

  • IP anonymisation is enabled by default in GA4
  • Google Consent Mode v2 is enabled - analytics storage runs in denied mode until you consent
  • Analytics data is not used for ad personalisation unless you consent to personalised advertising in the consent dialog
  • We do not share analytics data with third parties beyond Google
  • Data retention is set to the minimum period

For more information on how Google processes data, see Google's Privacy Policy.

Your choices

You can control cookies in the following ways:

  • Use the consent dialog when you first visit the site to accept, reject or customise cookies
  • Change your choices at any time with the "Update Privacy Settings" button at the bottom of every page
  • Use your browser's built-in cookie controls to block third-party cookies
  • Install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on

Data sharing

We do not sell or rent your data. We share it only with Google for analytics as described above, with Mediavine and its advertising partners according to the choices you make in the consent dialog, and in one case you choose yourself: if you use “refer my employer for me” on our Ask Your Employer tool, we pass your first name, email address, your employer's name, size and sector, and any car you picked to The Electric Car Scheme so they can contact you about a salary sacrifice scheme. We keep that record (including in our database backups) for up to 12 months and you can ask us to delete it at any time.

Your rights under UK GDPR

Under UK data protection law, you have the right to:

  • Access the data we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your data
  • Object to processing of your data
  • Withdraw consent at any time (with the "Update Privacy Settings" button)

Apart from the advertising described above, we only collect anonymised analytics data (and only with your consent), so in practice there is minimal personal data associated with your visit.
