Buying a Used Kia EV4 (2025-on): Hatchback vs Fastback, Safety Pack & What to Pay

By Elace Grace··7 min read

Kia’s EV4 is an electric family hatchback, with a four-door Fastback saloon also available. It arrived in the UK in 2025, and the 81.4 kWh model offers the longest official range of any Kia so far. Used examples are nearly new: a 2026 GT-Line is advertised at about £30,000, against £39,445 new, with years remaining on Kia’s 7-year warranty. This guide explains the versions, realistic range, safety packs and prices to expect. You’ll find a print-out checklist at the end.

The short version
  • Best value: a 2026 Air or GT-Line 81.4 kWh at £27,500 to £30,000: roughly a quarter below new, including the big battery.
  • Price the new car too: a new Air 81.4 kWh lists at £36,995, or £33,245 with the Electric Car Grant.
  • Check: the instrument cluster recall, and whether the DriveWise safety pack is fitted.
  • Think twice if a large boot is essential: owners say it is smaller than the EV3’s.

Which EV4 are you looking at?

VersionBatteryOfficial rangePrice new
Air Standard Range58.3 kWh270 miles£34,745
Air / GT-Line / GT-Line S81.4 kWh388 miles£36,995 / £39,445 / £43,945
Fastback GT-Line / GT-Line S81.4 kWh380 miles£40,945 / £45,445
GT (four-wheel drive, from 2026)81.4 kWh313 miles£49,345

The new prices shown are Kia UK’s list prices before the grant. All versions apart from the GT share the same 150 kW front motor. Kia’s line-up also includes Motion trim, while a heat pump costs extra on the GT-Line S. Almost all used EV4s have the 81.4 kWh battery. Full specifications appear on the EV4 page.

Realistic range

Our estimate for a typical 2025 car of each battery, from the same battery-ageing model as the rest of EVcarsguide:

CarSummerYear-roundWinter
2025 58.3 kWh225 miles198 miles167 miles
2025 81.4 kWh323 miles284 miles239 miles

The estimates assume a healthy battery delivers about 85% of official range in mild weather and about 74% in winter. We have not yet found owner range reports for comparison.

Charging

The 81.4 kWh EV4 rapid-charges at up to 128 kW. At home, the 11 kW on-board charger requires a three-phase supply to reach full speed; a 7 kW wallbox takes most of a night to charge the big battery from low. Before buying, check that a smart tariff such as Octopus Intelligent Go supports either the EV4 or your charger if you intend to use one.

The battery and its warranty

Kia’s 7-year / 100,000-mile warranty covers the car, including its motor and on-board charger, while the battery pack has 8 years, with repair or replacement if its capacity falls below 70%. It transfers to the next owner, but keep up the Kia servicing to keep it valid.

  • Registered 2025: covered to 2032 (100,000 miles); battery pack to 2033.
  • Registered 2026: covered to 2033 (100,000 miles); battery pack to 2034.

Recalls

  • Instrument cluster (R/2026/139): 199 EV4s built June to December 2025 are included in a recall affecting other Kias too. The display could respond slowly after starting, and indicating could cause it to reset. A software update fixes it, over the air or through a dealer.

Check the specific car on GOV.UK’s recall checker.

Safety

Euro NCAP gave the EV4 four stars with its standard equipment and five stars with the optional DriveWise safety pack. This adds radar to improve crash avoidance and protection against opening a door into a cyclist. Equipped with the pack, it scored 84% for adult occupants and 85% for children. Check whether the used car has it.

What owners report

We have still found very little written by UK EV4 owners; forum discussions mostly focus on the launch and styling. Early comments mention the boot being smaller than the EV3’s and ask whether smart-tariff apps can manage charging. We will add owner reports as they appear, so check back.

What to pay

Brand-new and ex-demo cars account for about a third of advertised EV4s, leaving a thin used market. Only the used examples are included in this table.

Air 81.4 kWh, 20269%£27,499£26,499–£28,4642,000

Fastback 81.4 kWh, 202610%£32,046£30,667–£35,1703,936

These figures are asking prices rather than valuations. A used GT-Line S asks about £3,500 more than a used GT-Line, considerably less than the £4,500 difference when new. Used 58.3 kWh cars remain rare.

Questions to ask the seller

  1. Does it have the DriveWise pack, and a heat pump?
  2. Has the instrument cluster recall been done?
  3. Has it been serviced by Kia, to keep the warranty?
  4. Was it an ex-demo or ex-lease car?

The print-out checklist

Bring this along. It covers checks specific to the EV4; our general used EV buyer’s guide covers the checks that apply to any used electric car.
